1. Make sure you have the best looking ugly sweater

When the weather outside is cooling down, an ugly sweater is just what you need and if you want to make sure that your ugly sweaters have just the right look to them then look no further. We’ve made a guide to help you create the perfect ‘ugly’ design.

You can download the templates to help you create your own design here

Ugly Christmas sweaters have become hugely popular recently and people have even started to have ugly sweater parties to celebrate the sweaters in all their festive glory. If you’re not sure what to base your design on, think back on your most popular designs or look into what designs your niche enjoyed the most that year. Then you can use our guide and templates to make it a little more festive.

2. How Christmas sales work across different countries

Sales will work very differently depending on where your target audience is based. Online spending varies drastically across Europe and so it’s important to focus your efforts on where you’re most likely to get the best results.

The US, UK and Sweden are the countries with the most online spending per person in the world so you might think that it’s a good idea to focus your efforts on them. However, when you look at the Google search statistics for Christmas jumpers you see that Sweden doesn’t have anywhere near as much interest as the UK and US do. (The US ranks lower here because they use the word ‘sweater’ instead of ‘jumper’, but you can see their stats here)

If you’re looking to sell your own ugly x-mas sweaters, the best places to advertise are the UK or US. Ireland, Canada and Australia will have an interest in your custom xmas sweaters, but it does not have the same culture of wearing ugly christmas sweaters.

3. Don’t wait, you can start selling now

It might seem early, but now is the best time to start your holiday marketing campaign. The amount that businesses spend on ads increases significantly toward the end of the year and so you’ll want to be a step ahead by starting early. This also gives you the chance to create a long running holiday campaign stretching over Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, into December. Creating product designs before these holidays means that you can plan when to advertise your products in advance and generate interest the moment you start your campaign. Don’t be afraid to make ugly sweater designs for different holidays, ugly Thanksgiving sweaters are also a popular purchase. Planning out your strategy makes sure that you can stop your campaigns in time to ensure that all your customers get their xmas sweaters in time for Christmas.

These are the cut-off date for Christmas delivery:

  • UK: Monday 16th December

  • US: Saturday 12th December
  • EU: Saturday 9th December

  • ROW: Wednesday 2nd December

4. Appeal to different kinds of shoppers early

Starting your holiday Campaigns early will give you the chance to appeal to different markets which will increase your customer base. By starting a campaign targeting shoppers from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday you’ll be able to focus on selling to self-shoppers. Over the course of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, 52% of shoppers will be buying products for themselves. According to Connexity this increases in older generations as up to 58% of Generation Y (people born in the 80s or 90s) and Seniors are likely to self-gift.

The amount of people spending mostly on themselves decreases the closer we get to Christmas, however people still set aside a budget for self-gifting. Given that people still have a budget for treating themselves at Christmas, it is definitely worth creating designs for a few smaller products which would appeal to people looking to self-gift. It’s also worth making sure you’re appealing to the right age-group when you’re advertising to self-shoppers because the younger generations tend to spend more money on other people than themselves.

5. Make your Content Christmas themed

Creating or sharing content is a great way to get people to notice you and to appeal to your specific audience. Creating blog posts in advance of the holiday season with gift guides for him and her is a great way make yourself stand out and show that you have knowledge of your niche. 61% of consumers say that they are more likely to make a purchase from someone who creates content that is relevant to them. Creating content which appeals to your audience can also focus on appealing to tradition and sentiment.

You’ll need to make or share content such as:

  • Facebook page updates for your new Christmas product range

  • Blog posts, gift guides for him and her, showcasing products which go well with your own custom designed products

  • Showcase examples of your products being worn either by you or your customers in a Christmas environment

  • Creating Christmas themed Pinterest boards

6. Create Competitions

Competitions for your customers are a great way to increase engagement and to can help spread word of your campaign to others through social media sharing. More than 63% of Facebook users said that they would share a holiday contest with their friends, so it’s a great way to increase your potential customer base.

Here’s a few examples to give you an idea:

  • Encouraging people to share pictures of themselves in their ugliest Christmas sweater and selecting a winner to receive a free product will result in more people viewing your products

  • Or if you want to increase your potential customers over the whole holiday season you could create a ‘12 days of Christmas’ prize draw and select a number of winners.

  • Giving people the chance to win a product by liking a post from your page would increase your engagement and lead to more sales as well

7. Make use of Holiday Discounts

Holiday discounts increase the appeal of your products to consumers, and offering them for the big holiday dates will create a sense of urgency which encourages people to buy while the offer is available.Offering discounts is also an effective way of converting customers who are still considering purchasing one of your products. Moteefe gives you the chance to choose how you can set up your discounts for customers, whether you want a limited amount of discounted sales, or you want to choose a timeframe for the discounts, it’s up to you.

This is an effective method of increasing your sales over short periods of time, especially if you advertise the discount as a limited time offer for your campaign. The discounted price will decrease your profit per sale, but if you have advertised your products effectively, you will make up that difference with an increase in the amount of sales.
